Welcome
The Society was formed to foster the study of New Zealand Military History, defined as the History of Warfare in New Zealand and of New Zealanders at War.
Our aims and objectives are to encourage research into history, traditions, uniforms, insignia, arms and all aspects of militaria.
Many members are acknowledged experts in various aspects of the services and are only too willing to advise those less experienced, be it in collecting militaria or in the knowledge of source material for those interested in research.
We were incorporated in New Zealand on 4 August 1975 under the Incorporated Societies Act 1908 (number 224289) and also registered by the New Zealand Charities Commission under the Charities Act 2005 (charity number CC26183).
Journal
We publish our journal, The Volunteers, three times a year typically in March, July and November. The journal contains a wide range of articles of interest from each of the services, including details of research that has been carried out by members and others. We are constantly seeking information that would be suitable for publication in our journal, and your assistance with this could be invaluable. Back issue copies are available for sale, see the links on the right for the index and information on how to purchase these.
Current Events
The Auckland Heritage Festival Military Heritage Weekend took place on the 24th and 25th of September at the Auckland War Memorial Museum. A wide range of militaria displays and lectures were held along with a very good display of military vehicles proudly lined up out the front of the museum on both days.
The 2012 event promises to be bigger and better with more displays and more lectures, we will announce dates and content as soon as these become available
